Positive feedback reinforces behaviors aligned with the culture, providing guidance on behaviors that should be continued. while corrective feedback addresses inconsistencies and ensures alignment and provides guidance on behavior that is not accepted, and why it’s not acceptable.

When everyone embodies the culture, they naturally make decisions and take actions that are consistent and aligned with each other and with the overarching goals of the team. This alignment eliminates the need for constant micromanagement or supervision, as the culture itself becomes the guiding force. In other words, the leader doesn’t need to be around to ensure the right decisions and interactions are enforced. The culture does the some of the “heavy lifting” of management. It’s your leadership silent partner, continuing to help drive the right decisions, creating connection with the team and ultimately inspiring and motivating an engaged workforce.
But that doesn’t mean the leader or manager is off the hook. Quite the opposite. Leaders play a crucial role in shaping and nurturing team culture. They set the tone, lead by example, and provide feedback that reinforces desired behaviors. Leaders and manager can also (and should also) be explicit with their teams, describing the team culture, either what’s existing or what’s aspirational. But telling the team what they want as an ideal culture, is not enough. You have to live it and reinforce it.
However, the true strength of a culture lies in its ability to self-perpetuate. When every team member internalizes the values and norms, they become stewards of the culture, holding themselves and their peers accountable.
Effective team cultures are agile and adaptive, evolving with the needs and challenges of the organization. They foster innovation, collaboration, and a sense of belonging, leading to higher engagement, productivity, and retention rates. Moreover, they create a cohesive identity that extends beyond individual roles or tasks, uniting diverse talents towards common goals.
